Headboard Size Guide (South Africa)

Choose a headboard that fits your bed — and your room.

A headboard should frame your bed, not fight it. This guide covers standard South African bed sizes, the headboard sizes listed on our current designs, and how to measure before you order.

How to measure

  1. Measure the bed, not the mattress label. Measure the full width of your base and mattress at the widest point.
  2. Allow a little overhang. A headboard that is slightly wider than the bed (a few centimetres each side) looks intentional and finished.
  3. Measure the wall. Check the space between bedside tables, windows, plug points and light switches, so nothing ends up hidden behind the headboard.
  4. Check mattress height. Measure from the floor to the top of the mattress — your headboard needs to rise well above it to be useful as a backrest.

Choosing the right height

  • Around 150–160 cm overall suits most bedrooms and gives comfortable support for reading in bed.
  • Around 180 cm and taller makes a statement in rooms with higher ceilings, and works well as a feature wall behind the bed.
  • Lower ceilings or under a window — go lower, or ask us about a custom height.
  • Sit up in bed and note where your head and shoulders rest; the padded area should sit comfortably above that point.
